SMOKING!!

Right so today im going to start again.

I've just had a very interesting look at a report on the BBC news website, surrounding smoking.

Apparently; in 2004-5 the Tresury took a huge £8billion in taxes from smokers and pay out approximately £1.5billion in treating patients with smoking related diseases.

So, in effect, they made a profit of £6.5 billion from us smokers and want to cut down the amount of smokers in this country.

Now, with a recession that does not make any sense to me what so ever.

To add to this point further, it appears that 3,000 people are employed by tobacco industries in the UK, even more of a reason not to cut down.

They have tried everything, banning smoking in public places, heightening prices on tobacco and now they want to put the products out of sight.

Everyone i know has at least 1 guilty pleasure. Either smoking, drinking or over-indulging, now im moderation these are relatively harmless, but still, the government want to take these pleasures away.

Adverts on bad fat, how to quit smoking and alcohol units are common place on UK Television.

But what i would like to know, is how this country would survive without the tax they take from food, alcohol and tobacco?

They would severely struggle.

But still they want to cut it out to aviod too much pressure on the National Health Service. Let me ask you this, how does the NHS survive? Through tax-payers money.

In conclusion, i am entitled to my cigarettes because i pay my tax, and therefore, i am entitled to health care if i want to continue to kill myself.

Smokers pay more than enough into the economy, a massive £6.5 billion, and i bet that a large majority of that is invested in our hospitals.

On average, £4.10 is made from a typical £5.50 packet of cigarettes, which for me would work out at nearly £1,500 per year.

I think i've paid for my health care, so why do they lecture me?

Finally, it's about time the government got a grip, they are ok lecturing me about how bad smoking is, and yes, it does kill people, but look how many people get cancer that have never smoked in their life.

Stop lecturing me because i've paid my way and i've made a decision as a working adult.

I bet they don't complain when my tax from my cigarettes are paying for their expenses, like the seond house etc...ohhh now that's slightly controversial!!!!
